Recorder PRO NDI® Compatible
Turnkey Linux appliance for recording NDI®, AES67, and OMT sources. Flash to USB, boot on any PC, and start recording — no configuration needed.
What It Does
Recorder PRO auto-discovers NDI®, AES67, and OMT sources on your network and records them to local disk or cloud storage. Mix video from one source with audio from another — for example, NDI® video with AES67 audio. Manage everything from a web dashboard.
- Auto-Discovery: Finds NDI®, OMT, and AES67 sources on your network automatically via DNS-SD and SAP
- AES67 Audio: Record AES67/Dante audio sources independently or mix audio from AES67 with video from NDI®/OMT
- 6 Codecs: H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1, FFV1 (lossless), ProRes — choose per recording
- Web Dashboard: Full control from any browser — start/stop, scheduling, file management, settings
- Scheduled Recording: Set start/stop times, recurring schedules, auto-rotate recordings
- Cloud Upload: Automatic upload to S3, Google Cloud Storage, or Dropbox after recording
- NLE Export: Export timelines to FCP XML, EDL, and OTIO — drop straight into your editor
- REST API: Full API for integration with automation systems and custom workflows
- Headless Operation: Runs as a Linux service — no display required
Use Cases
Multi-Camera Event Recording
Record every camera angle from a live event. Recorder PRO captures all NDI® sources simultaneously to individual MKV files. Export a multi-track timeline to your NLE and edit with all angles synced.
Unattended Capture
Schedule recordings for overnight broadcasts, lectures, or surveillance. Set retention policies to auto-delete old files when disk space runs low. Get webhook alerts if a source drops or recording fails.
Archive & Compliance
Record with lossless FFV1 or high-quality ProRes for broadcast archives. Auto-upload to cloud storage for offsite backup. Full recording history with searchable metadata.
House of Worship & Corporate AV
Record services, meetings, and presentations from existing NDI® infrastructure. Web dashboard means any staff member can start and manage recordings from their phone or laptop.

1 Install the Appliance
Recorder PRO ships as a bootable Linux ISO. Flash it to a USB drive and boot on any x86_64 PC, NUC, or server.
Flash the ISO
- Download the ISO from your license email or the dashboard above
- Flash to a USB drive using Rufus (Windows) or balenaEtcher (Windows/Mac/Linux)
- Boot your target machine from USB
Live Boot & Setup
The ISO boots into a live environment with the recorder service running immediately. A setup wizard configures hostname, admin password, and GPU detection.
Install to Disk
To install permanently, run install-to-disk from the console. This copies the live system to a local disk so recordings and settings persist across reboots.
Important: The install command will erase the target disk. Use a dedicated PC or NUC.
2 Open the Dashboard
Open a web browser on any device on the same network and go to:
https://<appliance-ip>:8443
The IP address is shown on the appliance console after boot
The dashboard gives you full control over recordings, schedules, files, alerts, and system settings — all from your browser.
3 Start Recording
Click New Recording on the dashboard. The recorder automatically discovers NDI® and OMT sources on your network.
Recording Settings
| Setting | Description |
| Source | Select from discovered NDI® or OMT sources |
| Codec | H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1, FFV1 (lossless), ProRes |
| Quality | Bitrate and encoding preset |
| Audio | Record audio (auto-detected sample rate and channels) |
| Output | Local disk, NFS/CIFS mount, or cloud storage |
Codec Recommendations
| Codec | Best For | File Size (1h @ 1080p) |
| H.264 | General purpose, widest compatibility | ~3–8 GB |
| H.265 | Better compression, smaller files | ~2–5 GB |
| VP9 | Open codec, good quality/size ratio | ~2–5 GB |
| AV1 | Best compression (CPU-intensive) | ~1.5–4 GB |
| FFV1 | Lossless archival | ~50–120 GB |
| ProRes | Post-production, NLE editing | ~40–80 GB |
4 Scheduled Recording
Set up automated recordings with start/stop times and recurring schedules. The recorder will start and stop recording automatically — no human operator needed.
- One-time: Record a specific event on a specific date
- Recurring: Daily, weekly, or custom schedules
- Multi-source: Schedule different sources at different times
5 File Management
Browse, search, and manage recordings from the dashboard. Sort by date, source, codec, or file size. Bulk download, delete, or export.
- Search & filter: Find recordings by source name, date range, or codec
- MKV → MP4: Convert recordings to MP4 for universal compatibility (Pro)
- NLE Export: Export multi-track timelines to FCP XML, EDL, or OTIO (Pro)
- Cloud Upload: Upload to S3, Google Cloud Storage, or Dropbox (Pro)
- Retention: Auto-delete old recordings based on age, total size, or free disk space
REST API PRO
Integrate Recorder PRO into your automation workflows. The API provides full control over recordings, sources, files, and settings.
| Method | Endpoint | Description |
GET | /api/sources | List discovered NDI/OMT sources |
POST | /api/start | Start recording a source |
GET | /api/channels | List active recording channels |
POST | /api/channels/{id}/stop | Stop a recording |
GET | /api/recordings | List recorded files |
GET | /api/schedules | List scheduled recordings |
GET | /api/system | System info and status |
System Requirements
| Minimum | Recommended |
| CPU | x86_64, 4 cores | x86_64, 8+ cores |
| RAM | 4 GB | 16 GB+ |
| Disk | 128 GB SSD | 1 TB+ SSD/NVMe |
| Network | 1 Gbps Ethernet | 1 Gbps+ Ethernet |
Storage tip: Lossless codecs (FFV1, ProRes) require significantly more disk space. For long-duration or multi-channel recording, use large NVMe drives or NFS/CIFS network storage mounts.
Troubleshooting
- No sources found? Ensure NDI/OMT sources are on the same network/subnet. Check that UDP 5353 (mDNS) is not blocked. The appliance uses Avahi for DNS-SD discovery.
- Recording starts but video is black? Check that the source is actively sending video. Try a different codec. Check system logs with
journalctl -u omt-recorder-pro -f.
- Audio out of sync or missing? Ensure the source is sending audio. Check the dashboard for audio level indicators. The recorder auto-detects sample rate and channel count.
- High CPU usage? Use H.264 or H.265 instead of AV1 for lower CPU load. Reduce the number of simultaneous recordings or lower the quality preset.
- Disk full? Set up retention policies in Settings to auto-delete old recordings. Consider NFS/CIFS network storage for more capacity.
- Can't access dashboard? Check that port 8443 (HTTPS) is reachable. The IP address is displayed on the appliance console.
